One on Aberdeen has been named Australia's best affordable housing development at the 2016 National Property Council of Australia Innovation and Excellence Awards. The award recognised the $73 million development in Northbridge as a great demonstration of how government could work with the private sector to achieve outstanding affordability outcomes.

Top architecture award for Bunbury development
The Housing Authority's Victoria Street development in Bunbury has been recognised in the recent 2014 WA Architecture Awards. The development, which provides affordable housing for transient people, claimed the Architecture Award in the Residential Architecture – Multiple Residential category. Housing's police housing project in Roebourne also received a commendation in the same category.

The quality of the Housing Authority's programs and people have been highlighted by two wins at the 2014 Institute of Public Administration Australia (IPAA) WA’s Achievement Awards. The East Kimberley Development Package (EKDP) Transitional Housing Program won in the Best Practice in Collaboration between Government and Non-government Organisations category and Ruth Charles, Program Manager, walked away with the inaugural Leader of the Year Working within a Division/Team/Organisation award.

Housing projects recognised for excellence
The development industry’s peak body recognised the Housing Authority's outstanding projects at its major award ceremony held at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre on the weekend (Saturday, 31 August).
Housing won four awards out of 11 categories and three discretionary awards in this year’s Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) Western Australia Awards for Excellence, including the prestigious President’s Award that recognises a project as being the ‘best of the best’ among all winning entries.

The Housing Authority'sLiving Space development at Cockburn Central in Perth’s southern corridor is a medium density, mixed-use project designed to offer affordable, sustainable living options in a modern, vibrant and engaged community. The 136-unit development lies just 200 metres from the Cockburn Central train station and centrally placed within Landcorp’s Cockburn Central City Centre, and is close to Murdoch’s health and educational facilities, including Murdoch University and the Fiona Stanley Hospital.

The Lime Street Project (Joint entry with St Bartholomew’s House and Formworks Architecture)
Completed in August 2012, the Lime Street Project is an innovative new homeless facility that allows its clients to move from crisis, to transitional, and eventually into long term accommodation while remaining part of the same community. It is the first time in Australia a program of this kind, and a homeless facility of this complexity, has been attempted.

Winner in the Masterplanned Development category.
Brighton Estate is located 37 kilometres north of the Perth CBD in the City of Wanneroo and only 1.3km to the Indian Ocean. The estate currently comprises four primary schools, two high schools, a central lake, over 50 parks, a community centre, and a village shopping centre that includes a medical centre, Coles Supermarket, a variety of specialty shops, a café, tavern, and day care centre.

Seniors Living: Bethanie Peel Community Housing
Bethanie Peel Community Housing represents the first of a new style of affordable housing for seniors by the Housing Authority and Bethanie Housing Ltd. This development consists of 96 units built in two, two-storey blocks. It provides a high-quality and well designed village environment for seniors who need a low cost rental housing solution. The development is located in Coodanup. This project was funded through the Commonwealth's Nation Building Economic Stimulus Plan. |

Medium Density Development and Rising Star Award: Stella Orion Apartments in Success
Stella Orion is a part of the larger Stella Apartments project - a master-planned residential project located in Success that will ultimately deliver up to 900 units. A partnership between the Housing Authority and Goodland Properties, it consists of 130 one and two-bedroom apartments offering modern living in a convenient location at an affordable price. The development meets market demand for lock-and-leave or low maintenance homes and is located near the Mandurah to Perth rail line. This project was funded through the Commonwealth's Nation Building Economic Stimulus Plan. |

Affordable Development: Malvern Springs (Ellenbrook)
The Malvern Springs development is a joint-venture between the Housing Authority and Morella Pty Ltd with a capacity for about 2,000 dwellings.
Affordability is a key component in all aspects of Malvern Springs' design and build. It has a product mix which includes half of the lots priced under $200,000, product innovation with the development of five and six-metre terraced dwellings; and more efficient use of smaller lots.
Ellenbrook was the first large-scale joint venture undertaken by Housing and remains one of the most successful master-planned communities in Australia. |

Judges' Award: South Hedland New Living
The Judges' Award recognises outstanding achievement or innovation in a particular aspect of development.
New Living is an urban renewal project being undertaken by the Housing Authority and Jaxon Pty Ltd in South Hedland. The project will revitalise South Hedland and see the refurbishment of more than 480 houses, planned development of 1,000 residential lots and improved public infrastructure. |
