The McGowan Government recently announced a rare opportunity to partner with the Department of Communities (Communities) to develop a 1.3745 hectare residential site in the cultural east end of Fremantle.
The government is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from private developers to achieve its vision for the Burt Street site of a new affordable community that enriches the unique character of Fremantle.
The vision for 19-25 Burt Street expresses Communities’ aspiration for the development to become a strong, vibrant and diverse community that positively contributes to the surrounding neighbourhood.
The development, zoned 160, will comprise a range of innovative and sustainable apartments with high quality streetscapes and landscaping that will enhance the character of the local Fremantle area.
The development will aim to meet demand from families, key workers and seniors looking to downsize. It will incorporate a mix of social and affordable housing, as well as shared home ownership opportunities.
Housing Minister Peter Tinley said the McGowan Government was committed to supporting liveable, sustainable and thriving communities.
“The Department of Communities plays an important role in this as it is the state’s largest built-form developer and has won numerous awards both locally and internationally,” Mr Tinley said.
“This partnership opportunity provides access to a well located site within the heart of Fremantle that is close to jobs, public transport and established amenities.
“The intersection of ocean, harbour and river make Fremantle a drawcard for tourists, a vibrant retail and trading environment, and a great place to live.”
Communities released an EOI in December 2017 with the appointment of a suitable developer expected to occur in 2018.
